Obituary for Ronald Robert Cashin
Ronald Robert Cashin, aged 54, died suddenly on March 15th, 2017.
We deeply grieve the loss of Ron in our lives, but respect the path he has chosen.
Ron will be deeply missed by his partner Noelle Burke and stepson Jericho Burke. Ron leaves his loving parents Ronald and Alice Cashin in Canso, Nova Scotia where he grew up. He is loved and will be missed by his sisters and their families and other family and friends in Ontario and Nova Scotia. He was thrilled to meet new family members this past year and reconnect with others. He will also be missed by the entire Burke family who loved him very much.
Ron felt a pull to the earth, trees and water. He loved to canoe, he was a serious and skilled camper (summer and winter). He loved to hike, snowshoe, mountain bike and road cycle. He was committed to working out and staying in shape. He loved music and food and travelling throughout Ontario and Canada. He especially loved to travel to Quebec and the Maritimes with Noelle and Jericho. Travelling to the Sundance ceremony in Manitoba was a highlight of his life. Ron had a gentle spirit, an interest in social justice and he loved Noelle and Jericho and would do anything for them.
Ron worked for many years as a foreman electrician and was a member of the IBEW Local 353. When a change in career presented itself, he went to York University and obtained a Bachelor of Social Work with Honours. A social worker by training and in his heart, Ron became a federal Parole Officer for the Correctional Service of Canada where he always hoped he was making a difference. He especially focused on Indigenous clients. He loved and appreciated his colleagues at CSC.
We are sorry he lost this battle. All are welcome to attend the traditional gathering for Ron to honour him and support his family. The ceremony portion of the gathering will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Folks are welcome to arrive at 7 p.m. for the viewing.
Anishnawbe Health Toronto played an important role in Ron's life and journey and donations in his name to this organization would be greatly appreciated. https://www.aht.ca/
