Obituary for Nickolas Kazakis

Nickolas Kazakis
NIKO WAS BORN IN THE TOWN OF LARDOS ON THE ISLAND OF RHODES IN GREECE ON FEB 3, 1941-- THE FIRST OF 5 CHILDREN BORN TO JOHN AND DESPINA KAZAKIS.

HIS SIBLINGS ARE:
PANAGIOTIS (PRE-DECEASED) – ANASTASIA - TSAMBIKA – STELIOS.

AS A YOUNG MAN, NIKO TRULY ENJOYED PLAYING SOCCER. AFTER FINISHING HIGH SCHOOL, NIKO PLAYED FOR THE TOWN OF LARDOS' SOCCER CLUB AND HIS YOUNGER BROTHER PANAGIOTIS SOON DID THE SAME. ANOTHER GREAT PASSION THAT NICK HAD THROUGH-OUT HIS LIFE, WAS SUPPORTING AND FOLLOWING HIS BELOVED SOCCER TEAM OLYMPIACOS FC.

IN 1962 THE FAMILY IMMIGRATED TO TORONTO, CANADA FOR A NEW LIFE JOINING OTHERS FROM RHODES WHO CHOSE THE SAME ROUTE. NIKO, AT THAT TIME, WAS SERVING HIS MANDATORY MILITARY SERVICE IN GREECE, AND JOINED THE FAMILY ONE YEAR LATER IN 1963. NIKO IMMEDIATLEY FOUND WORK IN THE HOTEL INDUSTRY FOR A FEW YEARS THEN WENT ON TO WORK AS A COURIER DRIVER UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT.

IN FEB OF 1965 WHILE ENJOYING AN EVENING OUT WITH FRIENDS AT THE ACROPOLIS THEATER IN THE BLOOR AND LANSDOWNE AREA, HE NOTICED A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG GIRL IN THE LOBBY HE HAD NOT SEEN BEFORE. SHE WAS ALSO OUT WITH FRIENDS, SO HE WAVED AT HER AND SHE WAVED BACK BUT UNFORTUNATELY THAT WAS THE END OF THAT ENCOUNTER. IN THE MONTHS AFTER HE OFTEN THOUGHT OF THAT BEAUTIFUL GIRL.

A FEW MONTHS LATER WHILE ENJOYING CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS AT WITHROW PARK - LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF DANFORTH AND LOGAN- - AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT-- HE SAW HER AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME HE KNEW A SIMPLE WAVE WAS NOT ENOUGH SO HE WALKED UP TO HER AND INTRODUCED HIMSELF. THEY TALKED FOR A WHILE AND DECIDED TO GO ON A DATE. ONE DATE TURNED INTO MANY AND SOON THEY FELL IN LOVE AND MARRIED IN FEB OF 1966.

NIKO WAS A MAN OF FEW WORDS, BUT PEOPLE WHO KNEW HIM UNDERSTOOD THAT HE WAS WELL-READ AND VERY INTELLIGENT, WITH A GREAT KNOWLEDGE IN A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS. NIKO, ABOVE ALL, WAS A MAN THAT TRULY LOVED HIS FAMILY AND WAS VERY PROUD OF HIS TWO SONS.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NIKO KAZAKIS WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED AND IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE SOFIA,
HIS SON JOHN, HIS WIFE JEAN AND THEIR CHILDREN NICKOLAS, VICTORIA AND TIFFANY
AND HIS SON LOUIE, HIS WIFE CHRISTINA AND THEIR CHILDREN JULIA AND MICHAEL.

AND HE WILL ALSO BE MISSED BY HIS SIBLINGS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE FAMILIES
