Life Story for
Athanasios Tom Gribilas
GRIBILAS, Athanasios Tom (March 11, 1940 – June 5, 2018) – An amazing life ended far too early, Tom left us after a lengthy illness at the age of 78. Loving husband to Mary (December 17, 1939 – January 4, 2018) for 52 years. A wonderful father and father-in-law to Paul and Fotine, Matina and Lambros, and Peter and Joanna. Irreplaceable Pappou to his 11 heartbroken grandchildren, Tommy, Peter, Nathan, Thea, Christopher, Tom, Thomas, Toni, Demetri, Elizabeth and Evan, each of whom had a very special and unique place in his very large heart. Respected, beloved and most generous father, grandfather, brother, uncle, dear godfather, friend, leader, coach, advisor and mentor. Proud co-founder, president and the beating heart of Olympic Flame Soccer Club, he enriched the lives of thousands of youth in Toronto through his tireless volunteering and work in the soccer community for over 40 years. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those whom he touched throughout his life. He never got the time he so richly deserved to enjoy his last years the way he wanted, but he will live on in our thoughts and hearts forever. Family and friends are welcomed to attend a visitation at Heritage Funeral Centre, 50 Overlea Boulevard, on Thursday June 7, 2018 from 5:00pm-9:00pm. Funeral service to be held at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 1385 Warden Avenue, on Friday June 8, 2018 at 10:00am, with interment to follow at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road.
